President's Welcome

Tom Pyles, President, Friends of Ashby's Fort

On behalf of the Friends of Ashby's Fort, I want to welcome you to this site, and encourage you to explore what we have to offer, both here, and at the museum.  If you are interested in history and the role that George Washington, John Ashby, Daniel Morgan, and others had in this critical French and Indian war fort, then please consider not only supporting us, but joining us as we improve our museum, add a visitor center, and rebuild part of the fort.  We need people like you to work with us so that we may preserve what happened here for generations to come.

History Heroes

Ashby's Fort Museum is very proud to have not one, but four people recognized by the state of West Virginia as History Heroes.  You might ask, what is a History Hero?  History Heroes are individuals who go beyond the call of duty to ensure the success of local history, genealogy, preservation, and museum organizations.  West Virginia has been recognizing these deserving folks since 1997, and we have been fortunate to have four of them affiliated with Ashby's Fort!  We are grateful for all their tireless work.
